Her New Deal

Sweet home Texas and a friendly little wave

by Her on July 8, 2010

If blogging is a habit that can be formed by writing regularly, then not writing is an equally strong habit.

I have the usual excuses–I didn’t have my computer with me until this week, I’ve been sick, I’ve been packing and moving, you name it.

And yes, those are all true, but I miss this little habit of mine. A lot has happened since June 19, and I could write thousands of words about the many mixed feelings I’ve had about everything, about the way my throat caught as we crossed the Charles for the last time, about my first bite of TexMex. I still might, because I’m still processing a lot of it, so for now, I’ll make a simple list. These are the days I’ll want to remember. I know that.

  • We (the Geek) packed. We moved from our apartment on Aberdeen to his parent’s home in San Antonio. We ate divine TexMex. We felt at home.
  • Food sometimes stayed down, and it sometimes didn’t. I was smug, certain that my strict Vitamin B regimen was keeping morning sickness at bay, but then eight weeks hit me. Hard. And is still hitting. I was grateful for the reminder that yes, something was changing, but now I’m feeling more confident about that and really wouldn’t mind a settled stomach.
  • I’ve had two snow cones. They were sublime. I always get strawberry banana. Always.
  • That sugar abstinence thing? Yeah. It went by the wayside, but I’m hoping to get close to that in the next few weeks if the nausea subsides.
  • I finally crossed paths with Ginger and N.C. over TexMex, and their kid is just as adorable in real life, and I definitely want to meet up with them again.
  • Neurotoxin flea killer for dogs will never touch my pups again. Adley just reacts so poorly to them, and it’s terrifying. Do you have any natural solutions for keeping fleas at bay?
  • I didn’t realize that Texas would feel so much like home. I don’t see leaving it for quite some time, and in fact, we’re planning to resettle in Austin. Surprise.
  • I hit three months. I am so, so, so excited about the second trimester.
  • I relented, and got an ultrasound today. The doctor was worried about possible clotting issues, so I consented. Remember, the only real ultrasounds I’ve had supplied terrible news. so when this one didn’t, I was pretty overcome. I was shaking hard with nerves before, and felt positively giddy after. The doctor told me that the babies she sees are usually paralyzed from the waist down at this point. Not this kid! There were leaps, bounds, and flips. My heart melted.
  • There are five dots on the top of the picture. The kid is waving. Both hands officially have five fingers. Somehow that’s what made it all seem so real–that, and not the heartbeat. The doctor told me I’m well beyond the point of worrying about another miscarriage. That’s exactly what I needed to hear. She didn’t like the possible blood clotting issues, so I’m being scheduled with a high risk doctor again in two months to make sure everything is going well. All in all, this is really happening, and I’m a bit incredulous about it, and I can’t stop glancing at the pictures.
  • Oh, and I bought my flight ticket to New York for BlogHer.

That’s all I’ve got for now–there will be more sooner. Today was my brother’s birthday, so we joined my family for dinner. I’d say we’re pretty immersed into family life again on both sides, and though that comes with mixed blessings, I’m content right now.

Yay for the second trimester and waving little babies! Hopefully you’ll start feeling better soon, but at least you’ve got tacos when you’re hungry now :-)

Tacos really are my godsend, and so is decaf tea–I’m loving it!

Aww, the ultrasound picture is perfect!!! The baby is already a genius because she/he waved!

Hopefully the 2nd trimester will be better for you in terms of keeping food down and so. :)

I love that your little baby is waving!

For fleas? If you mix rosemary and water, I believe that will work.

Here’s a couple more flea repellent recipes (one with water + white vinegar and one with water + lemon):

I’m definitely giving these a shot. I couldn’t touch the pups after the other stuff, so we’re desperate for something that works!

Look at the little tyke waving at you! How cute!

We use Frontline on Rocky the Dog and haven’t had a problem.

Her July 11, 2010 at 10:34 am

We tried that on Adley. It works for Radish, but she has fur, and he really doesn’t!

It’s been great–I didn’t even know that I missed it. I’m not sure how we stayed away from TexMex for four months!

This post makes me all giddy. Seriously! And seeing your kid WAVING?! So freaking cool!

If we move to TX and y’all are still there, I’m taking photos of y’all as a family. Done. Whether or not you like it. ;) And we’re hanging out. A LOT.

I think I was 15 or 16 weeks until the nausea really went away. I promise, you will be able to eat again!

Your baby is too cute! Are you going to find out the sex?

Reply

Her July 11, 2010 at 10:36 am

I keep telling myself two or three more weeks! I am definitely going to find out, and I’ll definitely tell the internet, but we’re going to torment most of our families and keep the secret!
